For these reasons, there’s no wonder an individual would choose to schedule an appointment at a chiropractic care center. Find out why this alternative pain relief treatment may be the cure for your condition.

Before we learn how chiropractic care can relieve your back pain, let’s learn a little bit about the educational requirements needed to become a doctor of chiropractic. Since this field involves the manipulation of the spine through a variety of techniques, it’s not a bad idea to be familiar with national educational requirements.

Chiropractic Education

In the United States there are 15 certified chiropractic educational establishments. These programs have been accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, which is the national agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education. Upon entrance to one of the aforementioned schools, students must have 90 hours of undergraduate courses, including many relevant science classes, and as they move on to a school of chiropractic, they are required to have more science courses, in addition to hands on hours in a lab. During the last two years of chiropractic education, students take the following courses:

  • Anatomy
  • Biochemistry
  • Microbiology
  • Physiology (Biological study of human bodily functions)
  • Pathology (Study of diseases)
  • Public Health

The last two years are the most crucial for a chiropractic student, as he or she will learn the hands-on spinal manipulation techniques. These methods are taught during clinical experience. Students will also take neurology, orthopedics, geriatrics, physiotherapy, and nutrition courses.
