Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a self-destructive, inflammatory autoimmune disease. The immune system should work to attack and destroy foreign cells and viruses, but instead it attacks the joint lining tissues, known as the synovium, throughout the entire body, including the spine. The immune system’s attacks cause a buildup of fluid in the joints, resulting in terrible pain and inflammation.
RA Back Pain
This condition basically destroys the synovial joints, causing an unstable connection between vertebrae. These unstable vertebrae are able to slide and slip forward on top of one another, causing pain. This slippage is known as spondylolisthesis. When this condition affects the C1 and C2 (the cervical vertebrae located at the base of the skull) it can be a very serious matter, as it is very painful.
